CRCD is pleased to announce that Jan Brown has
joined our staff as Youth Program Manager.
Jan holds a Master of Science degree in Marital &
Family Therapy and has worked with children, youth,
and families in South LA for more than nine years.
Jan has developed and implemented programs for
pre-adolescent and transition-age youth, including
emancipated foster youth and probationary youth.
She has provided therapy and case management in
a variety of settings, including a residential program,
school-based clinic, in-home services, and a
dual-diagnosis substance abuse treatment program.
Jan is trained as a multi-systemic therapist and a life
coach.
Jan joins CRCD at an exciting time. She will be supervising CRCD's workforce development program, which was launched last year.
This new program gives
South LA youth and young adults the opportunity to
secure living wage jobs with a career path. We provide
case management, jobs with our South LA
Beautification Team, employment readiness
workshops, linkages to local schools, and placement
in paid, 5-year, union apprenticeships in the
construction trades.
Jan will also be working with CRCD staff and
community partners on three permanent supportive
housing projects for homeless transition-age youth and
emancipated foster youth. CRCD and Little Tokyo
Service Center are working together to develop these
housing projects, which are scheduled to open in 2009
and 2010. CRCD is working with two collaborative
partners - Community Build and Los Angeles
Conservation Corps - to continue planning the on-site
supportive services. The on-site supportive services will
focus on independent living skills and economic
self-sufficiency.

CRCD has started the new year at full speed!
Our South LA Beautification Team (SLABT) is out in the neighborhood 7 days a week removing graffiti and bulky
items. We are hoping to exceed our previous year's production of more than 2.2 million square feet of graffiti
removed and 200 tons of bulky items disposed.
In our unique Workforce Development Program, at-risk transition-age youth are working with our SLABT crew, and
preparing for 5-year construction union apprenticeships. We had a great turnout for the February 2 program
orientation.
Our housing projects are getting closer and closer to fruition. We are working with an architect to design three
permanent supportive housing complexes in South LA for homeless transition-age youth and emancipated foster
youth. This will help to meet a tremendous need for affordable housing in the community.
Along Central Avenue, we have been reaching out to local merchants to develop a new business association and
help small businesses grow. Up to 50 people have turned out for recent meetings.
As we move full steam ahead in 2008, our work will be guided by CRCD's new 5-Year Strategic Plan. To develop
this plan, we spent time talking with local youth and parents, as well as our staff, board of directors, and advisory
board. Together, we have established specific goals with measurable objectives in each of our core focus areas.
Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to working with you in the coming months.
